Governor Christie Vetoes Homebuyer Tax Credit Bill
On Friday, July 23, 2010 Governor Christie vetoed A1678 (Greenwald/Prieto/ Sarlo/ Van Drew) which would have established a $15,000 Homebuyer Tax Credit.

While NJBA acknowledges the many positive steps taken by the Governor to revitalize the economy at large and the homebuilding industry in particular, we remain very disappointed by his decision.  Despite his best efforts and those of our Legislature, we all know far too well that the housing industry shows few signs of rebounding and continues to remain on life support.  We believe the Homebuyer Tax Credit would have been the right course of treatment, and remain hopeful that the Governor will revisit his position in the future

As we move forward from this setback following the most recent monumental victories we have had with Permit Extension, Age Restricted Conversion, regulatory changes, and Time of Application, we are confident that our elected officials will continue to see the value that housing plays in our economy and its subsequent recovery.

I would like to thank my fellow officers and the NJBA members and staff for your unwavering support of our legislative efforts.  I encourage you to remain engaged as we continue to collectively work to bring prosperity back to our industry.

Thank you,
